Bhubaneswar, 27 November 2017: The Netherlands arrived in India on the evening of 27 November 2017 at the Biju Patnaik International Airport for the prestigious Odisha Men’s Hockey World League Final Bhubaneswar 2017 scheduled to begin on December 1 at the iconic Kalinga Stadium. Earlier in the day, Argentina and Germany too landed in the beautiful temple city.

The teams were welcomed by Government of Odisha officials accompanied by host nation Hockey India.

For the Dutch, getting used to the conditions here ahead of next year’s Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2017 is the priority. “The Team is looking forward to playing in India as it prepares itself for next year’s World Cup. It is an important tournament for us as we build our momentum and get used to the conditions here. The crowds turn up in great numbers to watch hockey here and we are excited to play in front of them,” stated Seve Van Ass, Netherlands skipper.

Their counterparts lifted the Sentinel Women’s Hockey World League Final that concluded in New Zealand and the Men’s team too look to make a winning impression here.

Meanwhile, the Indian Men’s Hockey Team made a winning start in their first warm-up match against Argentina as they beat them 2-0. It was dragflick expert Rupinder Pal Singh, who is coming back after an injury break, who scored the two goals via penalty corner and penalty stroke in the match that was played in two halves of 20 minutes each. “It is good to win a warm up game as it helps the confidence and this is the first time in a few months that we are playing a much higher ranked team,” stated Chief Coach of the Indian Men’s Team Sjoerd Marijne.
