Bengaluru, 20 May 2017: Sports Authority of India and Hockey Chandigarh made it to the Final of the Hockey India 7th Sub Junior National Hockey Championship 2017 (Men) A Division today, with contrasting victories in their Semi Final encounters.

Sports Authority of India had to struggle in their game against Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy, coming from a goal down to take their place in the Final. After a goalless first half, where both teams struggled to overcome nerves, and were happier playing the ball in the midfield, it was Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy that took the initiative and struck the first blow. Shailendra Singh’s 48th minute gave them the lead and forced Sports Authority of India to play out of their shell. Within two minutesRimanshu had converted a PC to draw them level and the game was even again. Both teams struggled to break each other down, despite a host of chances, and with the threat of a shootout looming, it was Sports Authority of India that found the winner. Rimanshu it was again, pushing through a perfect PC to give them a goal that would prove to be the winner and take them through to the Final.

In the second Semi Final, Hockey Chandigarh put in a superlative performance to beat Hockey Odisha 10-1 and take their place in the Final. Similar to the first encounter, in this it was Hockey Odisha who scored first via Ajay Kumar Ekka in the 9th minute to take the lead. Sukhman Singh’s 16th minute equaliser drew Hockey Chandigarh level, and it would stay even going into the break. In the second half, Hockey Chandigarh seemingly notched up a gear, scoring eight goals without reply to take the victory. The scoring started three minutes into the second half, Mandeep converting a PC to give them the lead. From there on Hockey Chandigarh cruised through. Sukhman Singh (16’, 46’) and Maninder Singh (42’, 50’) scored a brace each for Hockey Chandigarh in the match.

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy will take on Hockey Odisha in the 3rd Placed game at 0730 hours IST, tomorrow, May 21, 2017.

Sports Authority of India will take on Hockey Chandigarh in the Final at 1600 hours IST, tomorrow, May 21, 2017.
