Aurangabad (Maharashtra), 25 February 2019: Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy, Hockey Odisha, Hockey Haryana and Uttar Pradesh Hockey won in their respective Quarter Final matches to advance into the Semi Finals of the 9th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2019 (A Division) here at the Sports Authority of India Campus on Monday. In the Semi Finals on Wednesday, Hockey Odisha will take on Madhya Pradesh Hockey while Hockey Haryana will take on Uttar Pradesh Hockey.

Hockey Chandigarh lost to Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 2-3 in a closely-fought 1st Quarter Final. Though Hockey Chandigarh found themselves leading on two occasions (1-0 in the 4th minute and 2-1 in the 41st minute), they fumbled in their defence which resulted in Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy marching into the Semi Finals tomorrow. It was Adarsh Hardua (33′), Sourabh Pashine (51′) and Haider Ali (59′) who scored fine goals to fight for a victory while Hashim (4′) and Harpreet Singh (41′) scored for Hockey Chandigarh.

In the second Quarter Final, Hockey Odisha best Hockey Gangpur-Odisha 3-2. Hockey Odisha dominated from the start having scored their first goal in the 9th minute through Ajay Ekka. In the second quarter of the match, Hockey Odisha scored two goals through Pradeep Lakra (20′, 28′) while Sudeep Chirmako (25′) scored for Hockey Gangpur-Odisha. With a comfortable 3-1 lead at half-time, Hockey Odisha did well to defend their scoreline and though Puran Kerketta (40′) scored for the opponents in the third quarter they could not match Hockey Odisha nor could they score in the fourth quarter.

The third Quarter Final saw Hockey Haryana beat Hockey Punjab 2-0.  Sunny Malik (8′) and Rimanshu (53′) scored for the winning team while Hockey Punjab too did well putting forth a highly skilled and disciplined performance.

In the fourth Quarter Final, Uttar Pradesh Hockey beat Sports Authority of India 3-2 in a tense shootout after holding each other to a 1-1 draw in regulation time.  In regulation time, Rohit (20′) had scored for Sports Authority of India while Gopikumar Sonkar (60′) scored for Uttar Pradesh Hockey.

1st Semi Final – 13.00hrs IST – Hockey Odisha Vs Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy

2nd Semi Final – 15.00hrs IST – Hockey Haryana Vs Uttar Pradesh Hockey
