Bengaluru, 27 April 2016: The final day of the Hockey India Women National Championship B Division saw Hockey Unit of Tamilnadu take on Chhattisgarh Hockey for the 3rd place game as Association of Indian Universities take on Hockey Gangpur Odisha for the top honours.

In the 3rd place playoff, Chhattisgarh beat Tamilnadu in a highly entertaining encounter 4-3. Chhattisgrah took the lead in the 9th minute via a Balvinder Kaur PC goal. Tamilnadu hit back at the end of the first quarter with a goal from A Vennila in the 14thminute. With the hooter seconds away, Chhattisgarh regained their lead with a goal from Avantika Yadav. In the second quarter Chhattisgarh pressed home their advantage, extending their lead to 4-1 with goals from Babita Hilhare (19’) and Pooja Yadav (22’). Tamilnadu reduced the deficit with a goal from K Loganayaki in the 25th minute to go into half time with the scores at 4-2. Post the break Tamilnadu hit back with another goal via Vennila, but couldn’t find the equaliser. Chhattisgarh ended up winners and took third place at the Nationals.

Hockey Gangpur took on AIU in the final match of the Nationals. Gangpur took the lead in the 13th minute via a Premanjali Toppo goal. It took till the last minute of the third quarter for AIU to find an equaliser, which they scored in the 44th minute via Manisha Dhawal. In the final quarter, with the game looking set to head to a shootout, Gangpur regained the lead when their captain Rinki Kujur scored viaa PC in the 57th minute. In the 59th minute Janhabi Pradhan scored another to ensure Gangpur would end up champions of the B division.
