Chennai, 14 January 2019: Day Eight at the 9th Hockey India Senior National Hockey Championship 2019 (Men) B Division in Chennai, Tamil Nadu saw Kerala Hockey hold Hockey Patiala 4-4, Hockey Coorg beat Steel Plant Sports Board 2-1 and Sports Authority of India beat All India Police Sports Control Board 2-1, Hockey HIM beat Assam Hockey 5-1, Hockey Madhya Bharat beat Goans Hockey 9-3 in their respective round robin matches here on Monday.

With teams inching towards the Quarter Finals to be played on 17 January, the Pool Standings as on today saw Hockey Maharashtra top Pool A, Sashastra Seema Bal top Pool B, Central Secretariat top Pool C, Bengaluru Hockey Association top Pool D, Hockey Patiala top Pool E, Food Corporation of India top Pool F, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu top Pool G and Hockey Coorg top Pool H.

In the first match today, Kerala Hockey draw with Hockey Patiala 4-4 in an intensely-fought Pool E match. S Shijin (11′, 17′, 40′) starred for Kerala Hockey as he scored a fine hat-trick that put Kerala Hockey in a comfortable 3-1 lead with Rana Robindeep Singh (33′) converting a field goal for Hockey Patiala in the third quarter. His second goal in the 48th minute narrowed the goal deficit to 2-3 while his teammates Rahul Sharma’s 49th minute goal through penalty corner equalised the score and Jaswant Singh’s 56th minute goal gave Hockey Patiala a 4-3 lead. M Nishant then scored for Kerala Hockey to settle for a draw and split the points.

In another high-voltage Pool H match, Hockey Coorg beat Steel Plant Sports Board 2-1. DM Achaiah (6′) and CK Mokshith Uthappa (31′) scored for Hockey Coorg while their defence stuck together to stay in lead till the final hooter. For Steel Plant Sports Board, Amit Kumar (18′) was the lone goal scorer.

Another closely-fought match saw Sports Authority of India beat All India Police Sports Control Board 2-1. Though it was All India Police Sports Control Board who began well with a fine field goal by Balwinder Singh in the 16th minute, Boby Singh Dhami (22′) and Sanjit Beck (59′) converted splendid field goals that ensured Sports Authority of India gained winning points from this Pool H encounter.

In another Pool G match, Hockey HIM beat Assam Hockey 5-1. Banesh Dangwal (2′), Kapil (4′), Prince Kumar (19′), Ankur Sharma (27′) and Gagandeep (50′) scored in Hockey HIM’s win while M Shitananda Singh (55′) scored the lone goal for Assam Hockey.

Hockey Madhya Bharat beat Goans Hockey 9-3 in a one-sided Pool H match. Izhar Qureshi (4′, 8′), Mohan Mahor (16′, 36′, 43′, 57′), Vaibhav Chourasiya (33′), Jagmohan Kushwah (34′) and Harish Pal (59′) scored for the winners while Pandurang Sankhalkar (2′), Shubham Sharma (40′) and Priolkar Dattesh (60′) scored for Goans Hockey.
