Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), 01 May 2018: Action in the 8th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2018 (A Division) continued here today into its sixth day which saw Hockey Odisha, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy, Hockey Haryana, Uttar Pradesh Hockey and Hockey Punjab qualify for the Quarter-finals of the competition.

In Pool A, Hockey Maharashtra defeated Hockey Bhopal 5-2 but failed to qualify for the Quarter-finals as they could only accumulate six points from their four matches. Goals for Hockey Maharashtra were scored by Venkatesh Kenche (43′, 67′), Prajwal Mohakar (34′), skipper Rahul Shinde (54′) and Rohan Patil (61′) while Sameer Ahmed (66′) and Mushtak Ahmad (68′) scored for Hockey Bhopal, who finished without a single point.

In Pool B, Steel Plant Sports Board defeated Chhattisgarh Hockey 8-3 to register their first win of the competition. Goals for Steel Plant Sports Board were scored by Abhiram Lugun (15′, 27′, 56′), Jay Prakash Patel (45′, 60′), Amit Kumar Toppo (7′), L Dipu Singh (18′) and M Dhananjoy Meetei (33′) while Omkar Gupta (52′), Praful Kullu (61′) and skipper Raja Khan (65′) scored for Chhattisgarh Hockey.

In Pool C, Uttar Pradesh Hockey defeated Manipur Hockey 9-1 to register a place in the Quarter-final with a tally of 10 points. Goals for the victors were scored by Uttam Singh (38′, 39′, 45′), Shivam Anand (33′, 34′), Vishal Singh (13′), skipper Mohd Faraz (15′), Prashant Chauhan (54′) and Vishal Verma (69′) while Suresh Surenshangbam (56′) scored the only goal for Manipur Hockey. In the other Pool C match, Hockey Punjab played out a 3-3 draw with Services Sports Control Board to finish second in the Pool standings with a tally of eight points, one ahead of Services Sports Control Board. Goals for Hockey Punjab were scored by Parampreet Singh (9′), Khusman Singh (16′) and Ranjot Singh (46′) while H Mani Singh (25′, 29′, 51′) scored a hat-trick of goals for Services Sports Control Board.

In Pool D, Hockey Gangpur-Odisha defeated Hockey Himachal 5-0 to finish second in the Pool with a tally of nine points. Goals for Hockey Gangpur-Odisha were scored by Manip Kerketta (30′, 70′), Abhishek Lakra (7′), Sudeep Chirmako (16′) and Biraj Topno (32′).
