Mumbai (Maharashtra), 10 January 2019: Action in the 2nd Khelo India Youth Games 2019 continued here at the Mahindra Hockey Stadium today into its fourth day with Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab registering victories in their respective last Pool matches to secure their spots in the Semi-Finals of the Under-17 Men’s Hockey competition, while Punjab and Uttar Pradesh won their matches in the Under-21 Men’s category.

 

In the Under-17 Men’s category, it was Uttar Pradesh who secured their Semi-Final berth as they defeated hosts Maharashtra 5-3 in their last Pool A match. The win for Uttar Pradesh saw them win their second match of the competition and finish the Pool stages with a tally of six points. Goals for Uttar Pradesh were scored by Ajay Yadav (24’, 33’), Deepak Patel (30’, 56’) and skipper Saurabh Anand (20’) while Maharashtra’s goals were scored by skipper DhairyashilJadhav (34’, 51’) and Kunal Dhamal (36’).

 

The other Pool A match of the day saw Odisha maintain their 100% record in the competition and secure their Semi-Final spot as they defeated Delhi 3-1 to make it three wins out of three. Goals for Odisha were scored by BikashKujur (10’), SudeepMinz (40’) and Deepak Ekka (41’) while Pankaj (53’) scored the only goal for Delhi.

 

In Pool B, it was Punjab who won their second match of the competition to take their tally to six points as they beat Jharkhand 9-4. Goals for Punjab were scored by Simranjot Singh (21’, 39’, 44’), Ajaypal Singh (2’, 17’), Arshdeep Singh Jr. (8’), Prabhsimranjeet Singh (10’), Aryan Walia (34’) and Arshdeep Singh (46’). Jharkhand also put up a fight which was led by goals from PremKerketta (45’, 54’), ShetTopno (13’) and SurjanManjhi (46’).

 

In the last Pool B match, Haryana showed their quality as they defeated Chandigarh 4-0 to take their tally to nine points from three matches and secure a Semi-Final berth. Goals for Haryana were scored by Yogesh Singh (11’, 59’), Tanuj Saroha (51’) and Ankit (52’).

 

In the Under-21 Men’s category, it was Punjab who became the first team to qualify for the Semi-Finals as they defeated Delhi 4-1 in their last Pool A match to make it three wins out of three matches. Goals for Punjab were scored by Parampreet Singh (27’), Harmanjit Singh (39’), Arvinder Singh (42’) and Prince (57’) while Delhi’s captain Amit scored his team’s only goal of the match in the 24th minute.

 

In the other Pool A match, it was Uttar Pradesh who secured path through to the Semi-Finals as they defeated Chandigarh 2-0 in a very competitive match. Goals for Uttar Pradesh were scored by MohdFaraz (29’) and ShivamAnand (39).

 

The Semi-Final matches of Under-17 Men’s category will take place on Saturday, 12January 2019 while for the Under-21 Men’s category, the Semi-Finals will be held on Sunday, 13 January 2019 after the completion of the Pool B matches on Friday, 11 January 2019.
