Aurangabad (Maharashtra), 18 February 2019: Action in the 9th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2019 (A Division) continued here at the Sports Authority of India Campus on Monday into its second day which saw Hockey Punjab, Hockey Haryana, Manipur Hockey, Hockey Gangpur-Odisha, Delhi Hockey and Sports Authority of India register victories in their respective Pool matches.

In Pool A, Hockey Punjab secured their first win of the competition as they beat Services Sports Control Board 5-1. Goals for Hockey Punjab came in the form of Simranjot Singh (3′, 7′), Vishaljit Singh (49′), Raman Kumar (53′) and Angadbir Singh (60′), while Services Sports Control Board’s only goal of the match came in the 12th minute through Deepak.

In the other Pool A match, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu and Hockey Himachal played out a competitive 2-2 draw. It was Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu who took a two goal lead through S Karthi (44′) and S Mareeswaran (48′), but Hockey Himachal’s Charanjeet Singh (57′) and Amit (59′) scored towards the end to secure a point.

In Pool B’s opening match of the day, it was Hockey Haryana who secured a 3-2 win over Hockey Jharkhand. Hockey Haryana scored twice in the opening 36 minutes to take a 2-0 lead, but Hockey Jharkhand cancelled the lead after 45 minutes, only for Hockey Haryana to score the winner in the 56th minutes. Goals for Hockey Haryana were scored by Ankush (4′, 36′) and Parmeet (56′), while Captain Anurud Bhengra (42′) and Raju Horo (45′) scored for Hockey Jharkhand.

In the other Pool B match, Manipur Hockey defeated The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd. 4-3 in an entertaining encounter. Goals for Manipur Hockey were contributed by Nirajkumar Waribam (19′, 47′) and Rohit Irengbam (28′, 32), while Mohit Kathoute (43′, 52′) and Anil Rathod (38′) scored for The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd.

Pool C saw Hockey Gangpur-Odisha register their first win as they defeated Hockey Maharashtra 2-1 in a closely contested match. It was Hockey Maharashtra who took the lead in the match as Venketesh Kenche scored for them in the 28th minute, but Hockey Gangpur-Odisha’s Amandeep Lakra (36′) and Gregory Xess (51′) scored to secure the three points for their team.

The other Pool C match saw Delhi Hockey beat Hockey Karnataka 3-0 where Prashant’s brace (51′, 55′) and Bharat’s one goal (44′) secured the three points for Delhi Hockey.

Pool D’s only match of the day saw Sports Authority of India score the winner in the 59th minute to beat Punjab & Sind Bank 2-1. It was Punjab & Sind Bank who took the lead in the 53rd minute through Harkawalbir Singh, but Sports Authority of India made a comeback in the last six minutes to secure the three points. Goals for Sports Authority of India were scored by Mohd. Saif Khan (54′) and Captain Deepak Dharambir (59′).

Hockey India congratulates PR Sreejesh on being appointed Co-Chair of the FIH Athletes Committee

The International Hockey Federation, on Wednesday, announced the appointment of the new FIH Athletes Committee, to be led by Co-Chairs Camila Caram of Chile and PR Sreejesh of India. While Camila Caram has been assigned Co-Chair and Athletes Committee Representative in the Executive Board, Indian Men's Hockey Team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh is the Co-Chair and he will lead the planning and meetings along with Caram.
