Saifai (Uttar Pradesh), 18 January 2018: Action in the 8th Hockey India Sub Junior (Men) National Championship 2018 (A Division) continued today into its second day here in Saifai, Uttar Pradesh which saw Hockey Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy and Namdhari XI, all winning their respective Pool fixtures.

In the first match of the day, Hockey Chandigarh won their second consecutive match in Pool B as they defeated Hockey Jharkhand with an impressive scoreline of 6-0. It was Hockey Chandigarh who showed their quality from the first half itself as they led by 4-0 at the half-time break with Angadbir Singh (12′), Harpreet Singh (25′), Rahul (29′) and captain Amandeep (35′) scoring the goals. In the second half, Hockey Jharkhand could not make a comeback as their opponents scored two more goals to wrap up a 6-0 victory, with skipper Amandeep scoring his second in the 63rd minute and Harpanthpreet Singh also getting onto the score-sheet with a goal in the 68th minute.

In another Pool B encounter, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu started their campaign by playing out a thrilling 4-4 draw against a Hockey Andhra Pradesh side which had lost their opening match yesterday. It was a close encounter between the two teams as they both were defensively strong in the first quarter, however it was Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu who went into the half-time break ahead as B Sathish scored in the 15th minute. But Hockey Andhra Pradesh were quick to respond in the second half and scored four goals through Ragaha Vendra Rao (45′, 56′), Santha Kumar Puchalapalli (46′) and Hitesh Rao Lekkala (60′) to draw the match 4-4. Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu’s three goals in the second half were scored by M Karnasiva (54′, 58′) and B Sathish (51′).

In Pool C, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy beat Manipur Hockey 8-1 in a dominant display. The victors played an attacking brand of hockey throughout the game as they took a 4-1 lead going into the half-time break. In the second half, Manipur Hockey could not produce a comeback as Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy added four more goals to their tally to snatch a 8-1 win. Goals for Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy were scored by Himanshu Sanik (35′, 39′), Shwetank James (65′, 69′), Haider Ali (3′), captain Shreyas Dhupe (6′), Adarsh Hardua (21′) and Ali Ahmed (58′) while Manipur Hockey’s only goal was scored by Dingku Sharma Gurumayum (33′).

Namdhari XI started their Pool C campaign with a triumphant display as they beat Chhattisgarh Hockey with a scoreline of 8-0. Namdhari XI showed their quality in the first half and set the momentum going as they scored five goals before the half-time whistle. In the second half, the victors continued to dominate the game as registered a 8-0 win in which the goals were for them were scored by skipper Hanspal Singh (13′, 57′), Anil (16′, 51′), Hardeep Singh (34′, 37′), Akashdeep Singh (7′) and Maninder Singh (31′).
