Hisar (Haryana), 08 February 2019: The opening day at the 9th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2019 (A Division) saw Railway Sports Promotion Board, Hockey Karnataka, Hockey Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy, Hockey Haryana, Hockey Maharashtra registered victories in their respective Round Robin matches here on Friday.

Defending Champions Railway Sports Promotion Board beat Hockey Rajasthan 12-0 in their first Pool A match. Young striker Preeti Dubey (12′, 30′, 38′, 51) starred for her team for four goals, while Priyanka Wankhede (2′, 37′, 52′) and Navjot Kaur (47′, 48′, 59′) scored thrice and Sushila Chanu (4′), Nikki Pradhan (53′) scored a goal each to win.

In another Pool A match, Hockey Karnataka beat Hockey Odisha 3-0. PA Pavithra (28′), Nisha PC (34′) and Leelavathy Mallamada MJ (53) scored goals in the team’s fine victory.

In a Pool B match, Hockey Madhya Pradesh beat Chhattisgarh Hockey 10-1. Karishma Singh (3′, 17′, 47′), Upasana Singh (6′), Narender Kaur (12′, 59′),  Neelu Dadiya (22′), Anjali Gautam (25′, 26′), Pooja Rani (32′) scored goals in their team’s win while , Balvinderkaur Mehra (53′) was the lone goal scorer for Chhattisgarh Hockey.

In Pool C, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy beat Hockey Gangpur-Odisha 2-0. Rakhi Prajapathi scored both the goals for the winning team in the 12th and 42nd minute.

Meanwhile, Devika Sen (29′, 54′) scored twice in Hockey Haryana’s 5-1 win against Hockey HIM. Amrinder Kaur (4′), Manisha (40′), Ritu (48′) scored other goals for the winners while Ranjita Minz (60′) scored for Hockey HIM.

Hockey Maharashtra beat Uttar Pradesh Hockey 3-0 in Pool C. H Lalruatfeli (20′, 28′) and R Ramngaighzuali (43′) scored for the winners. While Hockey Punjab beat Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 5-1 in Pool D.

Hockey India congratulates PR Sreejesh on being appointed Co-Chair of the FIH Athletes Committee

The International Hockey Federation, on Wednesday, announced the appointment of the new FIH Athletes Committee, to be led by Co-Chairs Camila Caram of Chile and PR Sreejesh of India. While Camila Caram has been assigned Co-Chair and Athletes Committee Representative in the Executive Board, Indian Men's Hockey Team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh is the Co-Chair and he will lead the planning and meetings along with Caram.
