Hisar (Haryana), 10 January 2018: The 8th Hockey India Sub Junior (Women) National Championship 2018 (A Division) started here in Hisar, Haryana on Wednesday with Hockey Jharkhand, Hockey Gangpur-Odisha, Hockey Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh Hockey, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy starting off their respective campaigns with a win.

In the first match of the competition, Hockey Jharkhand notched up a big 11-1 win against Delhi Hockey in Pool A clash. It was fours goals by Rajni Kerketta (14′, 27′, 47′, 68′), a hat-trick by Pramodni Lakra (21′, 23′, 57′), and a brace each for Beauty Dungdung (13′, 24′) and skipper Priya Dungdung (45′, 65′) which lifted the team to a strong first win. The only goal for Delhi Hockey was scored by captain Kovida in the 34th minute.

In a Pool C encounter, Hockey Gangpur-Odisha fought off competition from Hockey Andhra Pradesh to secure a 4-1 win to start off their campaign. It was level at 1-1 at half-time but Hockey Gangpur-Odisha scored three goals in the second half to win the match. Goals for Hockey Gangpur-Odisha were scored by captain Jyoti Chhatri (5′), Manisha Oram (44′), Sunita Xaxa (49′) and Philicia (65′) while Jhansi Bobbili (30′) scored for Hockey Andhra Pradesh.

Pool D’s opening match saw Hockey Chandigarh triumph over Hockey Bihar with a huge margin as they defeated them 14-0. The match saw Hockey Chandigarh score a total of 11 goals in the first half as they ran away with the victory, leaving no chance for Hockey Bihar to make a comeback. Akshita (5′, 20′, 31′, 34′), Dhapa (6′, 35′), captain Kavita (9′, 61′), Monu (25′, 51′), Barkha (3′), Kiran (15′), Preeti Malik (26′) and Kiran Jr. (56′) scored the goals for Hockey Chandigarh.

In another Pool C match, it was Uttar Pradesh Hockey who emerged victorious as they beat Hockey Karnataka 4-2. Both the teams went into the half-time break level at 1-1 and Hockey Karnataka equalized for the second time in the match in the 46th minute to make it 2-2. But Uttar Pradesh Hockey’s team showed character and scored two more goals to secure the victory. Goals for the victors were scored by captain Vinamrata Yadav (12′, 59′), Swati Kumari (37′) and Aakanshi Baghel (66′) while J Chandana (20′) and P G Dechamma (46′) scored for Hockey Karnataka.

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy also started off their campaign on a bright note as they defeated Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 16-0 in a Pool B match. Hat-tricks from captain Sadhna Sengar (40′, 47′, 70′) and Sneha Singh (49′, 54′, 60′), a brace each from Yogita Verma (1′, 5′), Priyanka Yadav (18′, 29′), Divya Yadav (25′, 62′), Soniya Kumre (48′, 56′) and a goal each from Sanskriti Sarwan (19′) and Ritanya Sahu (42′) contributed to Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy’s win on the opening day.
