Mumbai (Maharashtra), 15 January 2019: The Under-21 Men’s hockey competition of the 2nd Khelo India Youth Games 2019 came to a conclusion here at the Mahindra Hockey Stadium today as Odisha were crowned the Champions after defeating Haryana 4-2 in the Penalty Shootout, in what was a very competitive Final. Action in the Under-17 and Under-21 Women’s categories also continued as Jharkhand, Punjab, Mizoram and Haryana registered victories in their respective matches of the Under-17 Women’s competition while Odisha, Mizoram, Maharashtra and Jharkhand all drew their respective matches of the Under-21 Women’s competition.

In the Under-21 Men’s category, Odisha were crowned as the Champions as they defeated Haryana 4-2 in the Penalty Shootout of the Final. The scores were tied at 2-2 after the end of regulation time which resulted in the Penalty Shootout where AshisTopno, Gregory Xess, ShilanandLakra and DipsanTirkey converted for Odisha while only Kuldeep and YashdeepSiwach could score for Haryana. Earlier in regulation time, it was Odisha who took a 2-0 lead after 23 minutes as DipsanTirkey (11′) and AshisTopno (23′) scored for them. However, Haryana made a comeback into the match through a brace scored by skipper MandeepMor (29′, 57′).

Whereas, in the Bronze Medal match, it was Punjab who registered a 2-0 victory in the Penalty Shootout against Uttar Pradesh after both the teams were tied at 1-1 after all four quarters. Uttar Pradesh’s Samarth Prajapati (12′) scored first and gave his team the edge but Punjab’s Arvinder Singh scored in the 19th minute to put the scores level. In the Penalty Shootout, it was Punjab’s Mehkeet Singh and Karanbir Singh who converted for their team, as Uttar Pradesh missed all their five attempts.

In the Under-17 Women’s competition, Jharkhand defeated Delhi by an emphatic margin of 11-0 in Pool A. Goals for Jharkhand were scored by Beauty Dung Dung (9′, 26′, 28′), Poonam Mundu (34′, 42′, 45′), PramodniLakra (12′), RajniKerketta (18′), DiptiKullu (41′), SanjanaHoro (49′) and PriniKandir (55′).

In another Pool A match, it was Punjab who came out on top against Chandigarh by 4-3. Goals for Punjab were scored by Sneha Sabharwal (19′, 35′, 42′) and Mitali (3′) while Kavita (13′, 30′) and Dhapa Devi (51′) scored for Chandigarh.

Matches in Pool B saw Mizoram and Haryana register victories in their respective matches. The first match saw Mizoram defeat hosts Maharashtra by a margin of 5-1. Goals for Mizoram were scored by Lalthantluangi (23′, 36′, 58′), Vanlalhriatpuii (30′) and Lalruatfeli Jr. (55′) while skipper RutujaPisal (51′) scored Maharashtra’s only goal of the match. The other Pool B match saw Haryana register a 3-2 win over Odisha. KomalRohilla (11′), Deepika (31′) and Neelam (47′) scored for Haryana while Neha Lakra (21′) and Nimabati Singh (49′) scored for Odisha.

Whereas, the Under-21 Women’s competition saw hosts Maharashtra and Jharkhand play out a goal-less draw in Pool A which meant that the latter retained their top spot in the Pool with five points. In the other Pool A match, it was Odisha who played out a 1-1 draw against Mizoram to split the points. Odisha scored first in the match as DiptiLakra (14′) found the back of the net, but Mizoram’s fight-back was led by V.L. Hmangaihsangi’s goal in the 28th minute.
