Railways defeated Haryana 5-0 in the final of 2nd Hockey India Senior Women National Championship to defend their title at Aish Bagh Hockey Stadium here on Tuesday.

Railways took 3-0 lead in the first half scoring through Vandana Katariya (14th , 34th minute) and Roselin Dung Dung 16th minute.

In the second half Railways again dominated the proceedings as they scored two another goals through Deep Grace 63rd and Ritu Rani 65th minute putting 5-0 on board. Haryana failed to score any goal.

Vandana Katariya who scored 8 goals in the tournament was given player of the tournament award.

Railways Skipper Jasjeet Kaur said “ It is a wonderful moment for Railways as we succeed in defending our title. We performed as at team and played every game as per the strategy planned by our coach. I think each member of our team played very well”.

Earlier Jharkhand defeated Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 2-0 to finish third in the tournament.

After a goalless half Jharkhand dominated the proceedings as Lawerncia Kereketta struck in the 41st minute from a goalmouth scramble following a left-wing move and in the 45th minute Binita Xess converted a penalty corner.  MPHA struggled throughout the game and failed to utilize their chances.
