• Rabobank Hockey World Cup to be broadcast on TV to over 80 countries

• Digital streaming to hit 192 countries via YouTube

• Fan experience enhanced by social media, mobile app and latest technology

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) expects the television and digital reach for the Rabobank Hockey World Cup, 31 May – 16 June in The Hague, to reach 368 million viewers through global television, while an expected 1.25 million views are projected for the live YouTube streaming. The Hockey World Cup broadcast experience will be complemented with fan-engagement opportunities via FIH social media channels, while the HD coverage and analysis will be enhanced thanks to Spidercam and ball tracking technology.

With 15 nations being represented amongst the 24 men’s and women’s teams, the event will be broadcast in all five continents with the match scheduled optimised for television audiences.

Sky Sports, the United Kingdom’s premium sports channel are set to broadcast all of England’s matches, while Ten Sports will showcase 38 men’s games live throughout India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Astro, the number one sports network in Malaysia, will broadcast 46 games live, while ESPN3 will hit 92 million households in the USA. Supersport is planning broadcast of all 76 games in South Africa and across sub Saharan Africa, while Netherlands, South America, New Zealand, Australia and central Europe will have live coverage of their nation’s matches for their fans to stay connected. Negotiations are still ongoing for broadcast in additional territories.

The FIH understands the growing use of second screens and will be complementing TV broadcast with the digital reach of an expected 1.25 million views for the YouTube live streaming, on-demand replays, post-game match highlights, fun player features and goals of the day. As one of the top-5 international sport federations on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, the FIH will also ensure a full fan experience for the social audience, primarily the 500,000 fans on Facebook. In addition, the official Hockey World Cup mobile app will keep every fan around the world up to date on tournament updates and social media contests.

To further enhance the production of the Hockey World Cup ball tracking technology will be used to measure the speed of the ball. Spidercams will be used for the first time in hockey to showcase and provide analysis of the game in a fresh and exciting way.

About the Rabobank Hockey World Cup
The Rabobank Hockey World Cup is the sport’s greatest prize and was established in 1971 for the men and 1974 for the women. The event occurs every four years between Olympic cycles with the defending champions currently being Australia for the men and Argentina for the women. The 2014 event will be only the second time that the men’s and women’s tournaments have been hosted at the same time, with the first time being in 1998 in Utrecht. Since then, hockey has doubled in size in Holland highlighted by ticket sales for all 16 days of the 2014 event already having been sold out. The event will showcase 15 nations, 12 teams and 432 athletes. The 2018 World Cups will be hosted in India, for the men, and England, for the women and both events will feature a new 16-team format.
