Preview: Semi Finals of the 9th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2019 (A Division) to be held on Sunday

Hisar (Haryana), 16 February 2019: The Semi Finals of the 9th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2019 (A Division) will take place here on an action-packed Sunday which will see Defending Champions Railway Sports Promotion Board, Hockey Haryana, Hockey Madhya Pradesh and Hockey Maharashtra look to book their spots in the Final of the competition.

In the first Semi Final, it will be the Defending Champions Railway Sports Promotion Board who will take on Hockey Haryana. The match will be a competitive one as both the teams registered emphatic victories in their respective Quarter Final matches as Railways Sports Promotion Board defeated Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 7-0, while Hockey Haryana beat Hockey Jharkhand 8-3. All eyes will be on the strike-force of the Defending Champions as they have scored a total of 51 goals in the five matches that they have played so far, with Navneet Kaur being the top-scorer in the competition with 10 goals and VandanaKatariya behind her in second with seven goals. Whereas, Hockey Haryana have only scored 22 goals in the competition with their highest scorer being Devika Sen with four goals, but they will be looking to win the Semi Final after losing out at this stage last year as well.

The second Semi Final will see last year’s Runners-Up Hockey Madhya Pradesh go up against Hockey Maharashtra. Hockey Madhya Pradesh made their way through to the Quarter Finals after winning three of their four Pool B matches, and then defeated Hockey Karnataka by a slim margin of 1-0 in their Quarter Final encounter. They have scored a total of 19 goals, but Hockey Maharashtra, who have already eclipsed their last year’s Quarter Final finish, will be looking to spring another surprise after defeating Hockey Punjab in the Quarter Final on Friday. Out of Hockey Maharashtra’s 16 goals scored, Forward H Lalruatfeli has scored six goals and will be looking to step up again against Hockey Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.
