Odisha defeated Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 5-1 in the boys  final of 2nd Hockey India Sub-Junior Boys & Girls National Championship here on Wednesday.

Odisha took 4-0 lead in the first half scoring through Anand Lakra (8th minute), Peophill Kujur (10th minute), Nilam Sanjeer (16th minute) and Ashok Lakra (34th minute).

In the second half MPHA reduced the margin scoring field goal through Ravi in the 47th minute but Odisha scored another goal in the 62nd minute through Anand Lakra.

Earlier, Punjab boys defeated SAI Bhopal 2-1 to finish third. Baljinder Singh scored twice for Punjab in the 9th and 15th minute after Nadimuddin gave SAI Bhopal  the lead in the 6th minute.

Odisha’s Peophill Kujur was declared player of the tournament.

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy beat hosts Haryana 3-1 to claim the girls’ crown. For MPHA Nusrat Khatoon (18th minute), Shikha Sharma (19th minute) and Priyanka Wankhede (66th minute) were the goal scorers while Narinder Kaur (30th minute) scored the only goal for Haryana.

Jharkhand girls defeated Mizoram 4-3 to finish third in the tournament. Lalhlunmawii scored the opening goal for Mizoram in the 4th minute but Anupam found the  equalizer for Jharkhand in the 27th minute through a field goal. Pramila Soreng helped Jharkhand to take lead in the 35th minute.

Jharkhand scored through Reshma Rongari (50th minute) and Pramila Soreng (52nd minute) while Lalnunsiami (54th minute) and Lalhlunmawii (55th minute) scored for Mizoram.

Haryana’s Narinder Kaur was declared player of the tournament.
