–          Hockey Haryana outwits Uttar Pradesh Hockey 5-0

Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh), 04 May 2015: Continuing to showcase brilliant stick work on the second day of the 5th Hockey India Junior Women National Championship 2015 (A Division), the grounds of Rajnangoan saw some interesting clashes today.

Where, Hockey Haryana picked its second successive win by thumping Uttar Pradesh Hockey 5-0. In the second match, Hockey Karnataka sealed its first win of the tournament as they beat Kerala Hockey with a margin of 13-2. The third match went in favour of Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy who beat The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd 8-0. The day wrapped up with a win for Hockey Punjab as they overcame Chhattisgarh Hockey with a huge margin 15-0.

Hockey Haryana registered its second consecutive win by defeating Uttar Pradesh Hockey 5-0. The match between the two teams was an intense clash where Hockey Haryana proved to be the dominating side. The match began with Hockey Haryana possessing the ball and making swift attacks at the goal post with an aim to take a lead in the game whereas Uttar Pradesh Hockey was unable to convert any scoring opportunity during the entire match. It was Neha who took the initial lead for Hockey Haryana and capably converted a penalty corner in the 22nd minute of the game with 1-0 lead. The second half showcased a fast paced game where Hockey Haryana extended its lead to 2-0 through Neha who scored a beautiful field goal in the 50th minute. Continuing with the same momentum Hockey Haryana’s Jyoti Gupta scored a brace in the 42nd and 64th minute which was supported by Udita who added another goal to the tally in the 59th minute. With this, Hockey Haryana declared a comfortable win over Uttar Pradesh Hockey 5-0.

In another Pool A match, Hockey Karnataka trounced Kerala Hockey with a goal margin of 13-2. Hockey Karnataka was seen dominating the whole match and made constant forays in the opponent’s area. Within just four minutes into the game, Hockey Karnataka started their scoring spree through Nisha P.C who scored the first goal for her team followed by another 5thminute quick goal by Captain Sandhya H.P who doubled the lead to 2-0. Without wasting much time, Ramya N surged ahead in the 13th minute and scored the third goal for Hockey Karnataka. Keeping the brilliant teamwork consistent, Sandhya H.P scored four back to back goals in the 18th, 19th, 25thand 31 minute which extended Hockey Karnataka’s lead to 7-0. Making constant attempts to strike the goal post, Kerala Hockey finally picked up pace and penetrated in the 34th minute through Vindu K.V to reduce the margin to 7-1. Whereas, Hockey Karnataka was in no mood to give away the scorings easily, it added 6 goals to make a total of 13 goals to the tally. It was then eventually in the last minute when Kerala Hockey utilized the penalty stroke and converted a goal in the 69th minute from the stick of Vinya Athiyedath. But it did not affect the final scorings as Hockey Karnataka won the match and beat Kerala Hockey 13-2.

The third clash of the day saw Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy blank The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd with a massive score of 8-0. The game started with confidence showcased by both the teams in their effort to hit the first goal. This was successfully achieved by Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy in the 12th minute of the game when Anuja Singh hit a fantastic penalty stroke for the team. Very soon in the 17th minute, another penalty corner was converted by Lalruatfeli H which enabled Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy to take the score to 2-0. The excellent performance by Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy continued and in the 32nd minute the team won their third goal which was a field goal coming from Jyoti Pal. Despite continuous attempts made, The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd could not manage to score in the first half which ended in favour of Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy with 3-0. The second half of the game again witnessed a striking performance from Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy who started the proceedings of the 2nd half in the 44th minute with a field goal from Karishma Singh. Meanwhile, The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd was trying to bounce back in the game eyeing every opportunity to enter the opponent’s defense. Lalruatfeli H form Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy once again helped her team to add to their scores with another beautifully converted penalty corner in the 54th minute of the game. Anuja Singh maintaining her admirable performance converted another penalty storke and led the team towards victory. Madhya Pradesh Hockey academy continued with its goal spree and another penalty corner was converted by Neelu Dadiya from the team. In the 68th minute of the game, Krishma Singh once again stuck the ball hard in the goal box scoring another field goal and announced the victory for the team with 8-0.

Concluding the day with a win, Hockey Punjab claimed an astounding victory against Chhattisgarh Hockey 15-0. It was a one-sided affair where both the teams made interesting attempts to enter the opponent’s D. Hockey Punjab rained goal throughout the match as they drew their first blood from a penalty corner conversion by Reet in the early eighth minute. The second goal was scored by Ramanpreet Kaur in the 14th minute taking the lead at 2-0. With enough confidence gained with the two scorings, Hockey Punjab bagged its third goal from Amrinder Kaur in the 15th minute which was closely followed by Narinder Kaur who scored a brace in the 16th and 18thminute advancing the lead at 5-0. Utilizing the penalty corner Ritu struck the sixth goal in the 19th minute and this created a moment of alert for Chhattisgarh Hockey. In the last few minutes of the first half, Amandeep Kaur and Amrinder Kaur added two field goals in the 20th and 32nd minute respectively. The second saw the same spirit from the leading team as Hockey Punjab notched three goals 39th, 42nd, 59th minute taking the lead to 11-0. Param Jit Kaur made no mistake and contributed three back-to-back goals in favour of Hockey Punjab in the 60th, 66th and 68th minute to make a sum of 14 goals. With the last minute goal by Navneet Kaur in the 69thminute, Hockey Punjab declared a convincing win over Chhattisgarh Hockey by 15-0.

The International Hockey Federation, on Wednesday, announced the appointment of the new FIH Athletes Committee, to be led by Co-Chairs Camila Caram of Chile and PR Sreejesh of India. While Camila Caram has been assigned Co-Chair and Athletes Committee Representative in the Executive Board, Indian Men's Hockey Team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh is the Co-Chair and he will lead the planning and meetings along with Caram.
