New Delhi, 26 May 2013: Defending champions Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy and Haryana women’s team entered the final of the 3rd Hockey India Sub-Junior National Hockey Championship (finals) 2013 played on Sunday.

A fine display by their forwards in the penalty shoot-out guided Haryana women to a 4-2 win over Chandigarh after the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the regulation time in the first semi-final. Haryana scored 2-0 through Reet and Deevika in the shoot-out. Earlier Haryana scored through Sonika (31 min) and Reet (45 min) while Sarabdeep Kaur (51 min) and Saroj (53 min) were on target for Chandigarh.

In a hard fought second semi-final Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy entered final as they defeated Jharkhand 3-2 via golden goal.  After the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation time, a goal scored by Priyanka helped Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy to book their berth for the final. Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy scored through Karishma (22 min), Preeti Dubey (52 min) and Priyanka (79 min) while Kanti Pradhan (14 min) and Alka Dung Dung (64 min) scored for Jharkhand.

In the final Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy will face Haryana while Chandigarh will play against Jharkhand for 3/4th position match.

Jharkhand & Odisha men enters final

In the men’s competition, Jharkhand registered easy win 5-0 over Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy in the second semi-final. Sudhir Mundu scored three goals for Jharkhand.

In the first semi-final, Odisha defeated Punjab 4-1. Odisha scored through Nitin Mukesh (36 min), Suraj Minz (49 min), Rakesh Tete (65 min) and Ashwin Kujur (69 min) while Punjab scored their only goal through Arvinder Singh (52 min).

In the final Jharkhand will take on Odisha while Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy will face Punjab in the 3/4th position match.
