New Delhi, 22 September 2013: Defending Co- Champions Indian Oil Corporation limited claimed 88th All India MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey Tournament with a 6-4 win over Indian Overseas Bank at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai last month.

The winner received a cash award of Rs. 2.5 lakh while IOB was richer by Rs. 1.5 Lakh. Incidentally IOCL was the joint winner of the trophy with Air India last year.

Veteran Hockey Umpire and International Official Mr. PV Pandarinathan was given the ‘MCC Murugappa Hockey Honourarium’ for the long years of exemplary services rendered by him to the sport of Hockey.

During the course of the tournament, a special coaching camp was also conducted to select school students interested in hockey. 25 boys and girls learnt the skills of the game from stars Birender Lakhra, Mohammad Riaz and Raghu Prasad.

Mr. A Vellayan, Executive Chairman Murugappa Group and Mr. MM Murugappan, Vice-Chairman Murugappa Group attended the final match.

Final: IOCL 6 (Deepak Thakur 3, Prabhjot Singh 3) beat IOB 4 (Rupinder Pal Singh 2, Rafeeq 1 and Amandeep Ekka 1)
