New Delhi, 28 July 2014: Hockey India conducted four meetings of the Hockey India Disciplinary / Disputes Committee (Athletes & Members) on 26 July 2014 to review recent cases of breaches in the Hockey India Code of Conduct.  The meeting reviewed the selection of 5 players by Tripura Hockey for the recently concluded 4th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women National Championship (B Division) held at Haldwani, Uttarakhand from 15-25 May 2014. The players selected by Hockey Tripura were selected from outside of the State jurisdiction and did not open an NOC for the players’ participation. The Committee placed on record that although several reminders had been sent to the Working President/Senior Vice President and General Secretary of Tripura Hockey for clarification on the matter prior to the matter, no details to date have been submitted. The Committee has recommended to the Hockey India Executive Board that President, Senior Vice President and General Secretary of Tripura Hockey should immediately submit their resignations over the matter.

Another incident that was discussed by the Hockey India Disciplinary Committee was a case where Mr. Kukoo Walia intervened in the results of the physical tests (beep tests) of two international umpires that were conducted on 2 July 2014. The incident highlighted was brought to the forefront that Mr. Walia who was Vice-Chairman of Hockey India Umpire, Technical and Competitions Committee at the time these test were conducted, tried to influence and change the results in favor of the two umpires. Post the incident came into light Mr. Kukoo Walia resigned and Hockey India Disciplinary/Disputes Committee (Athletes & Members) accepted his resignation from the post.

In another incident, a ban of 3 months was imposed on Ramesh.N, a player of I.C.F Chennai for violating Hockey India code of conduct, the ban came into effective from 27 July 2014. This incident took place during the match between I.C.F Chennai and Pioneer Core Training Centre Bangalore during the Laxmi Ammal Memorial 6th All India Hockey Tournament 2014 played on 26 May 2014.

A fourth incident that was reviewed by the Committee took place on 18 June 2014 during the 92nd All India Trades Cup Hockey Tournament 2014 wherein the match was played between Punjab Police and D.H.A Kathi. Five players along with the Coach and Manager of the Punjab Police team misbehaved and abused match officials and further threatening them after the match. After reviewing the entire incident, Hockey India imposed a ban of 9 months effective from 27 July 2014 on all the 5 players, namely Simranjit Singh, Jasbir Singh, Satvinder Singh, Baljit Singh and Amit for violating Hockey India Code of Conduct and committing a level 2 offence. The Committee imposed a ban of one year from 27 July 2014 on Team Manager Mr. Jaspreet Singh and Team Coach Mr. Surjeet Singh for violating Hockey India Code of Conduct and not controlling their player.

In all the above cases, each individual will have an opportunity to appeal against the decision within 30 days with an appeal to the Chairman of the Hockey India Members / Athletes Grievance Redressal Committee.

Hockey India congratulates PR Sreejesh on being appointed Co-Chair of the FIH Athletes Committee

The International Hockey Federation, on Wednesday, announced the appointment of the new FIH Athletes Committee, to be led by Co-Chairs Camila Caram of Chile and PR Sreejesh of India. While Camila Caram has been assigned Co-Chair and Athletes Committee Representative in the Executive Board, Indian Men's Hockey Team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh is the Co-Chair and he will lead the planning and meetings along with Caram.
