Jinchun (Korea), 05 March 2018: The Opening Match of Indian Women’s Hockey Team Tour of Korea saw yet another milestone with Midfielder Monika completing 100 International caps.  The 24-year-old Midfielder who made her International debut in 2012 against New Zealand in Naples, has been an integral part of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team.

She was part of the Indian Team that won Bronze Medal in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, Korea and represented the country in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, a historic moment for India as they the women’s team had qualified for the event after 36 years. Monika’s performance was significant in India’s victory at the 2017 Women’s Asia Cup where the team beat China in the Final.

“I am truly fortunate to be part of this Indian Team. Completing 100 matches for India is always a special feeling and I thank my teammates for their constant support especially on tough days on the field. Off-the-field too, we are like one big family as we are constantly away from home. I also thank our coaching staff and Hockey India for their encouragement,” stated Monika who was applauded by the Team for her milestone ahead of the start of the opening match against Korea.

Congratulating Monika on her milestone, Mohd. Mushtaque Ahmad said, “On behalf of Hockey India I congratulate Monika on completing this milestone. Completing 100 matches for India shows determination and perseverance. Monika has been part of Indian Women’s Hockey Team’s recent success and I wish her the very best as the Team goes on to participate in major events like the Goal Coast Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and Women’s World Cup this year.”
