Hockey Citizen Group adds six new schools to its OTHL flagship Program
Hockey Citizen Group, a Delhi based NGO working at grassroot level hockey — which is also affiliated to the Hockey India – recently added six schools in South and West Delhi to its flagship program, One Thousand Hockey Legs (OTHL).
These schools, which lack in resources and sports infrastructure, were given hockey sticks, balls and other equipment besides part-time coaches to form competitive hockey teams in their campuses. These schools joined the unique OTHL — which seeks to introduce national game of hockey to at least 500 school kids in each city every year – after ascertaining success of the scheme in other schools in Delhi.
Hockey India has recently given affiliation to the NGO in order to encourage volunteerism in hockey and grassroot hockey promoters. A combined team of the NGO, under the name Citizen Hockey XI, will take part in the forthcoming 4th HI Sub-Junior Boys National Championships (Division B) in Vadodara, Gujarat.
HCG has also assured these schools assistance to improve their diffused playfields, besides providing competitive opportunities to their budding hockey team.
HCG was founded by hockey historian and author K.Arumugam.
