Defending Champions Delhi Waveriders gears up for HHIL 2015

New Delhi, 19 December 2014: The second edition of the Hero Hockey India League saw some of the most captivating moments coming in from the Delhi Waveriders, coached under Cedric D’Souza and went on to becoming the champions of the HHIL 2014. There were moments of awe and despair for the team as it strived to obtain the top slot in the Pool table. Missing the position by 1 point to Jaypee Punjab Warriors, the Delhi Waveriders took it on themselves to get their name carved on the trophy of HHIL 2014 and which they did against JPW on the final day. The Finals saw Delhi Waveriders riding on goalkeeper Nicolas Jacobi’s brilliant show under the bar to eke out a hard-fought 3-1 win over Jaypee Punjab Warriors in the shoot-out after the two teams ended the regulation time locked at 3-3.

His teachings that involved the tips and tricks to steal away the match from the opponents was implied successfully on the field and yielded favourable results for the team. Adding more flavours to the team’s performance this year as well, Head Coach Cedric D’Souza will be seen guiding the Delhi Waveriders’ clan to put up yet another breath-taking show during the third edition of the Hero Hockey India League.

Boosting his defence line-up with Andrew Hayward from New Zealand, getting picked up in the Auctions held last month, Cedric will be looking at the strong line up with names like Rupinder Pal Singh, Tristan White, Steven Edwards, Andres Mir Bel, Surender Kumar giving a tough time to the opponents on the field.

Speaking on the third edition of Hero hockey India League, Delhi Waveriders’ Head Coach Cedric D’Souza said, “Yes, I am excited and waiting for the 3rd edition of Hero Hockey India League. It was a pleasure seeing the team winning the trophy last year and this time around everyone is aware that it will not be an easy task keeping in mind that the game of hockey has evolved a lot in the last one year. The players have grown in terms of physical strengths as well as strategising quickly on the field. We will also follow the recently culminated Champions Trophy which will give us a fair idea on the kind of play that the players are following on the field. The aim of course if to retain the title, while it will be difficult but I see no reason why we can’t achieve it yet again.

The third edition of the Hero Hockey India League is all set to roll out from the 22nd January 2014 and will witness Delhi Waveriders defending the title against the five franchisees, all gearing up to steal the show this year. The opening day of the League will witness Kalinga Lancers taking on Ranchi Rays in Bhubaneswar.
