Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award
The award was introduced in the year 1991-92 with the objective of honouring sports persons to enhance their general status and to give them greater dignity and place of honour in society. Under this scheme, an amount of Rs. 7.5 lakhs is given as award for the most spectacular and outstanding performance in the field of sports by an individual sportsperson or a team.

Arjuna Award
The Arjuna Awards were instituted in 1961. As per the government guidelines for the eligibility of this award, a sportsperson should have had not only good performance consistently for the previous three years at the international level with excellence for the year for which the Award is recommended, but also have shown qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of discipline. The Awardee is given a statuette, a scroll of honour, ceremonial dress and a cash award of Rs.5.00 lakhs.

The Awardee is given a statuette of Guru Dronacharya, a scroll of honour, ceremonial dress and a cash prize of Rs. 5.00 lakhs.

Dhyan Chand Award
Dhyan Chand Award is the highest award for lifetime achievement in sports and games, given by the Government of India. This award was initiated in 2002 to honour those sports persons who have contributed to sports by their performance and continue to contribute to promotion of sports after their retirement from active sporting career. The award is named after the legendary Indian hockey player Dhyan Chand. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5.00 lakhs, a statuette, ceremonial dress and a scroll of honour.
